Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom. I really could not be the person I am today without you. You’ve taught me so much about emotional awareness, about standing up for myself, and about living life on peaceful terms with it. You’ve made me feel celebrated, confident, loved, and trusted, and I can’t explain how much it has all impacted me for the better. I see others struggling and I wish I could give them all of the helpful advice you’ve given me but it’d take me like 19 years to teach them 😂 I have an amazing framework to approach life with, and it’s all from your wisdom. I don’t know what I would do without you or without our 15 minute calls between my classes. I’m so thankful for you and everything you have done for me and my brothers. I hope you feel so celebrated today and I love you so much 💞💞💞

happy birthday to my beautiful, funny, kind, thoughtful, courageous, and inspirational mother. i'm so grateful to have learned from the best about all the important things: kindness and empathy, willingness to stand up for oneself and others, the importance of connection with community, and love. i can't imagine the person i would be without you. thank you for being such a strong pillar of support in my life, being my first and biggest inspiration in fashion, makeup, beauty, writing, and art, and just being hilarious. i love our long drives and long talks and am so beyond lucky to have you in my life as a safe space and a loving resource. you have flawless taste in these things, and in so much more, and i hope to be like you someday. for today, though, i hope this is the best birthday yet. i'm so happy to celebrate it with you, and i'm so excited to celebrate many more. 💞

in this quote, kassem is referring to the strength of "family", and i feel that it also applies to my friends and my acquaintances and even the many graduates i've never met. we all come from the same place, and that makes us grounded and strong. this can be interpreted in so many different ways (in terms of what the roots actually are) but for now, i'll just say that it's just relevant to our shared school. :) thank you to everyone who supported me in my journey through high school, especially my mother and father. i would be so lost without you two, and i love you so much. and i love you, granddaddy. although i heart achingly wish you were still here physically, it felt so heartwarming to be able to include you in this milestone of mine, and i'll always feel your love and encouragement.
